Summer in Rio goes from December to March, with temperatures getting to 40ºC (104ºF). Winter goes from June to August, but is still warm, with temperatures reaching 20ºC.
Real Reitur Turismo operates buses from the airport to Barra da Tijuca, via the city centre, with several stops at the bus terminal, Santos Dumont Airport, Flamengo, Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. There are also many taxis available on the airport terminal.
Santos Dumont Airport has domestic flights for some Brazilian destinations. The Real Reitur Turismo bus services take you into the city centre in about 20 minutes. There are also many taxis, but assure the meter is used or agree a price in advance.
The Metrô Rio is a fast and efficient way to move around the city, connecting some of the principal tourist attractions.
Buses are economical, frequent and will take you to most parts of the city.
Taxis are fairly priced. Tourists are advised to only use taxis that have an official identification label.
