WHY GO

Roatan is an island of luxury, too expensive, the many tourists who come in search of sun, and they do raise prices, particularly scuba diving and accommodation.

This island is magnificent, with its white sandy beaches and beautiful wooden colonial houses built partially over the water.

WHEN TO GO

During the dry season from February to May, widespread forest fires and agricultural burning can degrade air quality throughout the country, possibly causing respiratory problems and airport closures.

Avoid the rainy season between June and November.

GETTING THERE

The Aeropuerto Juan Ramon Galvez Roatan is located a short distance east of Coxen Hole.

Many international airlines have flights to Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula (Honduras on the mainland) from which a variety of connecting flights are available.

GETTING AROUND

Prefer public transport, water taxis and motorbike rental.
TAXIS

Water taxis are often used between West End and West Bay (0.76 €, 10 minutes) and to get around Oak Ridge.

There are many taxis on the island. Many are collective during the day, which means that stop along the way to carry more passengers and do not charge much more than buses.

COACH

Roatan has two bus lines, both originating in Coxen Hole.

The second bus is used by most tourists. He travels to the west of Coxen Hole passing Sandy Bay and West End on a bus traveling east from the airport through Coxen Hole, Polly Tilly Bight through Punta Gorda and Oak Ridge (€ 0.27 to 0 , 38 €, every 30 minutes from 6 am to 5:30 pm), the cost depends on destination. The travel time varies with driver, taking up to 1 hour to get to the Oak Ridge.
