Agra was the capital of the Mughal Empire for more than a century and is today one of the most visited cities in India due to the splendor of Muslim buildings built at that time. The Taj Mahal, mausoleum built by Emperor Shah Jahan in honor of his wife (Muntazer Mahal, who died in 1630 while giving birth to her 14th child), is among the most beautiful buildings in the world.

After all, Agra has so much pollution that acid rain is ruining the marble of its greatest attraction. Most tourists visit the city during one day. But the Taj Mahal and the other (few) the city's attractions are worth visiting, and there are good hotels and restaurants.

WHY GO?

Visit the Taj Mahal. Or was not this one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.

ORIENTATION

Agra is located in the extreme west of the state of Rajasthan, midway between Jaipur and Varanasi. The Taj Mahal is a bit away from the center, along the river. In the center has several temples and some markets. The area the hotel is close to the Taj Mahal.

WHEN TO GO

Agra's climate is tropical, with rainy summers and dry winters.

The summer rainy season is the only city, all the other stations are dry. In late summer there is a marked reduction in the volume of precipitation, unlike the tropical regions of South and Central America, where rainfall decreases slowly.

The climate is a key to go to India. There are three dominant seasons: hot, rainy and mild. It is recommended to avoid the warm season (April, May and June), when temperatures reach 45 º C. The mountains are among the destinations at this time. The month of October is the period when the country receives the highest number of tourists. From November to March begins the season of weddings, which fill the streets of rituals. If you can, book your trip for that period, you will not regret.

HOW TO GET THERE

Agra airport is 7 km from the city center, but ended Indian Airlines flights Delhi-Agra-Khajuraho-Varanasi and currently there are no flights from Agra. Recently, Kingfisher Airlines established flights between Agra, Jaipur and Delhi.

COACH

Most buses from Terminal Idgah. Every hour there are buses that depart with destination station Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi (it takes 5 hours, via Mathura). Deluxe AC Buses depart at 7:30 and 15:30. There are also buses leaving every hour en route to Jaipur (6 hours) and two buses departing daily to Khajuraho (10 hours) at 6:30 am and 5:00 am. Buses depart from the Government of Rajasthan Sakura Hotel, near the Idgah terminal. The white deluxe buses depart every hour to Jaipur. Between March and October, the AC bus travel three times a day.

TRAIN

The train is by far the best way to travel to and from Delhi, Varanasi, Jaipur and Haridwar. The Cantt railway station is an important stop on the Delhi-Mumbai line, with several trains travel daily from the stations of New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin. The train is faster and more comfortable to travel to and from Delhi is Shatabdi Express AC. This part of Delhi at 6:15 am and part of Agra to return at 8:30. Most east-west train station now part of Agra. In Varanasi, the best option will be the Marudhar Express night train, which begins from Agra to Varanasi at 21.15 arriving around 9:30 the next morning. The same train also travels to Jaipur, Agra leaving at 6:15 and arrive Jodhpur at 11.30 and 18.30. If you want to travel to Khajuraho, take a train to Jhansi and then a bus. Other trains travel to Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Chennai (Madras) and Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum).
