Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel, located in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea. This modern city is also a holy city to the three religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

The walled area of Jerusalem - the Old City, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is formed by four ethnic and religious sections — the Armenian, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Quarters. The Old City is home the Western Wall and Temple Mount for Jews, the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians.

Jerusalem, also known as “The City of Gold”, is a distinctive place where the ancient history lives along with the present days.

The mountainous city of Jerusalem has two centres of importance — on the east side of town is the walled Old City with its wide cultural diversity and history; and on the west is the modern downtown triangle of King George, Ben- Yehuda, and Jaffa. Jerusalem is home to many national institutions, most in the Givat Ram area of Jewish West Jerusalem.

Jerusalem has a Mediterranean climate with very hot arid summers and chilly humid winters. March, April and October are the best months to visit.

By Plane

Ben Gurion International Airport is situated near Lod and close to the highway connecting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

The journey from the airport to the centre of Jerusalem takes 40-50 minutes.

By Bus

From the Egged central bus station, buses connect to all major cities and towns around Israel. Every 15 minuites there are connections to Tel Aviv taking only one hour.

By Train

Jerusalem’s railway station is located in the southwest of the city, near the Jerusalem Mall. Trains to Tel Aviv’s Arlosoroff station depart every hour hourly.

By taxi

Cabs are plentiful in the city of gold. Insist with the driver to turn on the meter (Mon-eh) and you should have no problems.

By Bus

Jerusalem is connected with a network of city bus routes.

By foot
